A super simple way to spark curiosity and hands-on learning! Grab a baking tray, prop it up against a couch, chair, or stack of books, and let the experimenting begin. Roll toy cars, balls, or even small household objects down the ramp—what goes fastest? What gets stuck?
Encourage your little one to test different angles by adjusting the height of the ramp. Does a steeper ramp make things roll faster? What happens if they try a textured surface like a towel underneath? This easy setup introduces early STEAM concepts like gravity, friction, and cause-and-effect—without any complicated prep!
Lean the baking tray on a wall, sofa base or sturdy vertical surface
Add extra support if you have a slippery surface. (We used wooden rainbows which served as extra tunnels & bridges for vehicle play!)
Roll vehicles, balls and other objects down the ramp, experiment and play!
Ramp Races: Set up two baking trays side by side and race different objects to see which one is the fastest! Try rolling different types of balls (bouncy, wooden, aluminium foil) and predict which will win.
Obstacle Challenge: Add bumps or barriers to the ramp using tape, small blocks, or play dough. Can your little one make a path that slows down a rolling ball or changes its direction?
Magnetic Maze: If you have a metal baking tray, use magnetic tiles or fridge magnets to create a maze on the surface. Have your child tilt the tray to guide a small ball through the maze without it falling off!
