Paper tunnels are a simple and fun play idea that can be set up in minutes using just a few basic materials. By using sticky tape to arch pieces of paper on the floor, you create a series of tunnels that encourage your child to explore different ways to play - whether they’re rolling balls, driving toy cars, or coming up with their own imaginative games.
This activity is all about open-ended play, allowing kids to take the lead and use their creativity. It’s especially great for toddlers and...
Fold your piece/s of paper into an arch on the floor, creating a tunnel shape
Use sticky tape to secure each end of the paper to the floor, making sure the tunnel is tall enough for balls or toy cars to roll through.
Set up multiple tunnels in a line or spread out, creating a mini obstacle course.
Show your child how to roll a ball or drive a toy car through the paper tunnels.
Encourage them to experiment by changing how they roll the ball, using different speeds, or seeing how many tunnels they can pass through in a row.
Let them lead the play - watch as they come up with creative ways to use the tunnels!
Obstacle Course: Set up additional obstacles, like cushions or blocks, to create a more complex course for the balls or cars.
Target Practice: Add small targets at the end of each tunnel and challenge your child to aim for them when rolling the ball.
Tunnel Decoration: Give your child some crayons or markers to decorate the paper tunnels, turning them into colourful bridges or tunnels with designs of their choice.
