"Sing Up the Steps" is a simple, playful way to practice literacy skills (e.g. spelling, phonological awareness), counting or motivate your child through tricky transitions - like going upstairs. You can also just do it for fun to weave playfulness into your day.

Play
Step 1:
Sing together as you climb the stairs - changing your voice each step, moving from low to high notes or quiet to loud.
Step 2:
Get silly - try making funny sounds, singing favourite songs, or pretending to be an elevator.
Extend
Turn-taking: Alternate who gets to sing with each step
Characters: Try singing like a famous person, in a robot voice, or like an opera singer.
Go backwards: If you'd like a calmer version, make the challenge going from a normal voice to as quiet as possible until you get to a whisper
