A fun and simple activity to help kids practice balance and focus with lots of open-ended play potential.
By balancing small balls on cardboard tubes, they’ll engage their concentration while developing their hand-eye coordination. For littler kids, balance the balls and let them have fun knocking them down.
You can turn this into a challenge by seeing how long they can keep the balls balanced or set up multiple tubes for more complexity. This is a great way to help kids develop fine motor...
Gather small, lightweight balls (ping pong balls, ball pit balls, or even pom-poms).
Find a few cardboard tubes (from toilet rolls or paper towel rolls).
Optionally, use tape to secure the tubes on the floor or create a line of tubes for a longer challenge.
Show your child how to balance a ball on the top of a cardboard tube.
Encourage them to try balancing the ball themselves, starting slowly and steadily.
For added fun, you can set challenges, like seeing who can balance the ball the longest or try balancing more than one ball at a time.
Ball toss: For an extra game, try to see if you can bowl to knock balls and tubes over
Ball tunnels: Find small balls that you can roll through the tubes and have fun experimenting - you can even use this as a ramp to bowl
Balance challenge: Once your child has mastered the basic balance, try adding a little twist by making them balance with one hand or while hopping.
