This is a simple art invitation using something you likely already have in the recycling bin. Just snip slits into the ends of a cardboard roll, bend them outward, and voilà - you’ve got a DIY stamp ready for paint.
Kids can stamp single flowers, create entire gardens, make sunbursts or even abstract patterns. It’s a great way to explore shape, colour, and creativity without needing fancy supplies. Plus, there’s something satisfying about turning “trash” into art.
You can even pre-cut a few...
Cut evenly spaced slits around one end of the cardboard roll (around 2–3cm deep).
Gently fold the flaps outward to create a flower, starburst, or fringe shape.
Pour paint into a shallow dish.
Dip the stamped end into paint and press onto paper to create fun prints.
Try mixing colours, layering patterns, or even drawing stems and faces on the stamped shapes.
Nature prints: Try stamping over leaves or petals glued down to create mixed-media garden scenes.
Build a bouquet: Cut out stamped flowers and glue them onto sticks or straws to make a 3D flower display.
Make your own wrapping paper: Use butcher paper or brown paper bags as your canvas.
