Sometimes the quickest way to add play to your day is to switch how you speak. Announce snack time like you’re in a musical. Narrate chores in freestyle rap. Or hum your to-do list like it’s the latest chart-topper.
It’s a bit ridiculous - and that’s the point. A playful voice can make repetitive moments lighter, tricky transitions smoother, and low moods a little brighter.
This works solo (yes, you can sing to your own cup of tea) or with kids - who will likely jump right in and respond...
Pick a mundane moment - packing lunch, brushing hair, asking your kid to put on shoes.
Say it in song, rhythm or rhyme.
Lean into the silliness. See if they join in - or surprise yourself with a spontaneous tune.
Bonus points for themed styles (opera, country, rap battle, Disney princess).
Call-and-response: You rap the setup, they finish the rhyme.
Genre challenge: Say the same sentence in as many musical styles as possible.
Character voices: Speak as if you’re a news reporter, pirate, or pop star.
