Write letters of the alphabet on sticky notes (as many as your child is ready for - A to Z or just a few), then stick them around the room, house, or yard. The mission? Find each letter and match it to an object that starts with the same sound!
You could also turn it into a playful race: Can they find and stick each letter onto a "home" piece of paper marked with the letters? Or a matching object? Or try the reverse - say a word and have them find the letter it starts with.
This activity is...
Write one letter per sticky note (uppercase, lowercase, or both).
Stick them around your space - walls, furniture, toys, etc.
Optional: Have a basket or letter-marked surface to collect or sort found notes.
Invite your child to find the letters.
For each letter, they can:
Match it to a corresponding letter on a piece of paper
Stick it on something that starts with that letter
Name an item that starts with it
Race to find the next one
Theme variations: Depending on their interests, you can theme the hunt around other concepts like shapes, colours or numbers.
Name match: Hide only the letters in your child’s name and help them find and arrange them in order to “build” their name.
Lowercase & uppercase match: Mix lowercase and uppercase letters and invite them to find the pairs as they go.
Mystery word: Choose a word (like “MUM” or “ELEPHANT") and hide only those letters - telling them how many they need to find. Once found, mix them up and see if your child can guess the mystery word and arrange them correctly.
Draw the match: Once they find a letter, ask them to draw a quick doodle of something that starts with that letter on the sticky note or nearby paper.
Reverse the roles: Let your child hide the sticky notes for you to find! This gives them leadership and planning practice, and a fun power-reversal dynamic.
