This easy activity turns any wall, door or window into a vertical canvas for mindful, sensory art. Simply tape up a sheet of contact paper sticky side out, and offer a collection of lightweight objects to explore and arrange.
Pom poms, feathers, tissue paper scraps, pipe cleaners, patty pans - use whatever you have on hand! It’s open-ended, low mess, and encourages fine motor skills, creativity, and focus. Bonus: it’s an excellent way to repurpose bits from your craft stash.
Cut a piece of contact paper to desired size.
Peel the backing and tape it to a wall, window or door with the sticky side facing out.
Gather a mix of safe, lightweight materials and place them in a tray or bowl nearby.
Invite your child to stick items onto the sticky wall however they like.
Talk about textures, colours, and patterns as they go.
Encourage layering, sorting, or even making pictures.
Theme Play: Try a seasonal collage (e.g. autumn leaves, spring flowers) or a colour theme like “all blue.”
Story Collage: Create a character or scene together and make up a story about what’s happening.
Shape Sorting: Cut out basic shapes ahead of time and turn it into a shape-matching activity.
