Use magnetic tiles to create a simple coin run. This play idea is perfect for introducing STEAM concepts like gravity, momentum, and cause and effect in a hands-on and exciting way. It’s quick to set up and adaptable to suit your child’s interests and abilities.
By stacking multiple tiers of magnetic tiles and running coins down from the top, your child will enjoy experimenting with how different angles and shapes can change the speed and direction of the coins. For an added challenge, build...
Gather some large square tiles and small triangle tiles.
Make sure you have some coins or other small flat objects ready.
Build the First Tier: Stick two triangle tiles diagonally between two large squares. Arrange them so that the coins can run off the top triangle onto the bottom one.
Create More Tiers: Build two more similar tiers and stack them on top of each other to make a three-tiered coin run.
Test it out: Place a coin at the top tier and watch it roll down through each level until it comes out the bottom side.
Target Box Challenge: Build a magnetic tile box at the end of the run and challenge your child to get the coin into the box, turning it into a fun target game.
Coin Races: Set up two coin runs side by side and race coins to see which one gets to the bottom first.
Building Extensions: Have your child extend the coin run by adding more tiers or loops, encouraging creative engineering and problem-solving skills.
